It is well known that Jimma University has been actively engaged in different collaborative activities with different stakeholders both at national and international level. In line with this, since its inception, Jimma University Laboratory of Drug Quality (JuLaDQ) has been participating in different collaborative activities with different stakeholders like EFMHACA, Veterinary Drug and Animal Feed Administration and Control Authority, United States Pharmacopoeia (USP), World Health Organization (WHO), and local and international pharmaceutical industries/companies. As the part of this, Basic Pharmaceuticals Quality System Training was given by JuLaDQ for different professionals working in the Veterinary Drug and Animal Feed Administration and Control Authority, at JuLaDQ site, Jimma University. The training was first phase collaborative work agreement signed between Jimma University and Veterinary Drug and Animal Feed Administration and Control Authority as part of capacity building activities for the staffs of the authority since they are in the first stage of establishing a national quality control (QC) at their site in Addis Ababa.
The training was started after the brief explanation given by Dr Sultan Suleman, Director of Jimma University Laboratory of Drug Quality (JuLaDQ) about university-industry linkage and community based education (CBE) activities that Jimma University has been performing. The training encompasses both theoretical and practical hands-on sessions, which mainly underscore physico-chemical quality (sample collection and reception, storage, sample preparation and analysis), equipment operation and handling, water purification and documentation systems. The performance of the trainees was evaluated based on pre-test and post-test scores. Certificate was awarded for the trainees who demonstrated best performance during training. Finally the training was completed after the open discussion about the entire aspects of the training made between the JuLaDQ staffs and the trainees. The training was held from April 11-21/2016 at Jimma University Drug Quality Laboratory.
